Two Rolling Stones showed they could still please a crowd last night and they
didn’t even need Mick Jagger –
they had their own bands.
Bill Wyman and his Rhythm Kings were at the
Roadhouse, Covent Garden as they continued their Jazz Tour,
while Charlie Watts played with his jazz band at Ronnie Scott’s.
The legendary Stones rhythm section then met up to share a drink and post-gig
analysis at Ronnie Scott’s.
The Rhythm Kings’ line up included such Sixties legends as Procol Harum singer
Gary Brooker and pianist
Georgie Fame who said: "We don’t play our own material or old hits – but
we stick mainly to stuff from the
Thirties and Fifties."
Bob Geldof watched Bill Wyman and the Rhythm Kings, along with Britt Ekland and
said he rather fancied the
idea of playing with them. "I really like this kind of music, " he said.
When Wyman was asked if Geldof was
welcome to join, he pursed his lips and grimaced: "There’s no room."
The Charlie Watts Tentet includes some of Britain’s most accomplished jazz players,
including tenor saxophonist Pete King.
